Rous: "Lelarge is a moron"

Asked before yesterday's stage of the Tour if his Bonjour team was in shock after the expulsion of Noan Lelarge for failing a dope test at the Giro d'Italia, Didier Rous was frank in his condemnation of his former team-mate. "We're not in shock at all," he said. "The problem is that we took on a moron who has done something enormously stupid. He knew the policy of the team and he did this thing on his own.

"If I run into him, he would be well advised to run away quickly and for a long time. If I catch him, it will hurt. What he has done is irresponsible and unspeakable. He has been kicked out of the team and I am happy."

"I am comfortable in Rabobank," said De Groot. "I have ridden an excellent program. With a two year contract, I know I can go further."

Cologne dismisses Kil

Team Cologne has sacked 30 year old Dutch rider Pelle Kil. Team leader Dieter Koslar sent him a fax two weeks ago informing him of the decision which shocked Kil, who is currently the USA. He intends on returning to Europe shortly to sort out the problem. The decision was reportedly due to organisational issues, rather than lack of results on Kil's part.

"Koslar will answer me, that is certain," said Kil. "But I will keep cycling. I will race bikes and ride out my contract."

No crits for Dekker

Erik Dekker (Rabobank) will not ride criteriums in the week after the Tour de France. He is concentrating on his preparation for the World Cups later this year. Today, Dekker showed signs of form by making the final break in stage 2 of the Tour, but preferred to let his teammate Marc Wauters take the honours.
