Headbutt! The most dramatic image of 2005: Robbie McEwen and Stuart O'Grady going literally head to head while the year's rapidly emerging superstar Tom Boonen beats them both to the line in the third stage of the 2005 Tour. We especially like the way Roberto Bettini's image of this moment looks like a regular field sprint at first glance - till you realise something's going on that's not quite normal!

Jon Devich's picture of the Tour peloton ascending the Galibier was second. It's an image that perfectly captures the sheer isolation of the high Alpine roads that the Tour crosses every year - and the dedication of the fans that drive up and wait hours for the riders to arrive. The kind of picture that has you reaching for your passport.

Third was another Roberto Bettini image, of a fiercely determined Tom Boonen on the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix, serenaded as he passes by a group of fans playing distinctly home-made instruments.
