The on the afternoon session on Saturday, the first round saw the favourites up the stakes a little and they took seconds off their qualifying times - again, a battle of Commonwealth countries for the gold medal.

If you can tear your eyes away from the power and coordination on display on the track, one of the most fascinating pastimes when Team Australia are racing is Maccawatching - observing Australian coach Ian 'Macca' McKenzie as he signals to his boys. The crowd shook the roof of Vodafone Arena in a tense showdown between Britain and Australia and it was neck and neck till coach Macca gave the open-arms signal to the team to let it all go.
