Despite his strong riding in World Cup round this year, the heats of the points race saw a surprise elimination among the three riders who didn't make the final.

In a highly tactical final, the technique of grabbing a lap made all the difference, and an over-joyed winner put his success down to his family, saying "they kept me going, supporting me my whole life".But he admitted, "I had to think about my tactics and execute them until the last sprint."
