-Coverage starts on August 23, 2005.
Since the arrest on May 22, 2006, of Manolo Saiz, the cycling world continues to be rocked by the revelations of what's become known as 'Operación Puerto'. This is a Spanish Civil Guard investigation of Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes, who is alleged to be one of the key figures in supplying doping products and blood transfusions to athletes.
The casualties from 'Operación Puerto' are unprecedented in cycling, and indeed in world sport, as the three top favourites in for this year's Tour de France all were forced out - one way or another - through alleged connections to this Spanish sports scientist. The investigation continues and it's unlikely to close in the near future.
