European racing is all about colour, tradition and being able to get
so close to the riders they sweat on you. Sirotti captured all those aspects
of the European scene in this image of the peloton climbing a cramped
street in Houffalize in this year's Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
We nominated several images by American documentary photographer Caroline
Yang and her passionate pictures took three of the remaining top five
places, and captured some of the most dramatic moments of the 2004 Tour
de France. Another crowd scene, by regular Cyclingnews photographer
Jon Devich, landed fifth place.
