Who'd turn down the bike that carried the best Tour rider of his generation to six consecutive victories? There's no doubt that the power of Lance Armstrong's US Postal team has helped out the squad's Trek bikes at the top of the poll for two years running. And the second spot on the poll is again taken by CSC's Cervelo bikes, followed by Swiss manufacturer BMC.
Bike fans traditionally hankered for hand-crafted esoterica lovingly assembled by Italian artisans. Does the ascendancy of the twp North American-designed bikes, one made in the US, the other in the far East, mean anything? It shows the truth of the old adage "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" but it might also be that the day of the romantic craftsman framebuilder is over.
