Certainly one of the bikes with the strongest impact at Eurobike was De Rosa's new Merak. Ugo and his sons have updated this popular model with an entirely new approach that involves a unique process called hydroforming. Cristiano De Rosa explained to Cyclingnews "hydroforming is an innovative process, which is a new way to shape the frame tubes without changing the basic weight and structure."

De Rosa achieves these unique tube profiles by injecting fluid under high pressure into pre-shaped autoclave moulds. When the proprietary process is finished, De Rosa has a stress-free sculpted tube set that has been formed without heating or via mechanical means. De Rosa then mates the new Merak to a carbon fibre monobox rear triangle to come up with one of the most striking looking high-end road bikes in recent memory.

De Rosa hasn't ignored the more price sensitive among us for 2004; their new Macro model has an integrated 1.125-inch head tube, carbon fork and chainstays. Groupwise, Ugo and sons mount Campagnolo Centaur with Zonda wheels for new model that is a great way to become a De Rosa rider.
