Back at Eurobike after a two-year absence, Cannondale's stand was jam-packed on day one of the first trade show of the season. Lurking among the brouhaha of Cannondale's Eurobike stand quietly hangs "il Muletto" of Gilberto Simoni. Gibo used this lightweight Cannondale carbon fibre / aluminium rig to grab a win in the Loudenvielle stage in this year's Tour de France. At this point in time, it's not clear if or when this bike will be commercialized by Cannondale, but at 6.64kg for a 52cm frame, it's hard to imagine that they won't bring a limited number of this very special bike to market in 2004.

6.64kg for Gibo's 52cm muletto according to Cannondale's non-certified scale. After hefting the feather carbon / aluminium rig ourselves, we can vouch for the practically "it's not there" weight for Simoni's Tour bike. Check out the Fizik Airione saddle in Cannondale team colours; looks like Gibo has been spending a few hours on his new saddle.

Cannondale's Saeco Team Replica has to be one of the most sought-after high-end road bikes anywhere. Yeah, this is the same rig that Saeco's Gilberto Simoni used to dominate the competition in this year's Giro d'Italia, and the Optima Hollowgram frame, Slice Si full carbon fork, Hollowgram Si crankset and Campagnolo Record derailleurs, plus the exclusive limited edition Cinelli RAM integrated bars and stem have propelled the Bethel, Connecticut firm's road offerings to the head of the class.
