Independent Fabrications still offer the shop-bought custom-built bike that has made them a legend in the mind of some of America's mountain bike community. Independent Fabrications take the measurements your local dealer makes from you, and builds a custom bike to your exact needs; the sort of bike you only need to buy once.

And with some of the top-dollar options available, a bike you will only be able to afford once. Custom paint styles, as well as a sterling silver head tube badge priced at US$100, are available if the bank manager will allow it.

Like Independent Fabrications, Vicious Cycles makes custom steel mountain bike frames for the discerning buyer. Vicious Cycles also offer some of the wildest paint schemes around, including a hand painted Van Gogh "Starry Night" look that has to be seen to be believed.

Both Independent Fabrications and Vicious Cycles are making the move to carbon fiber rears on their frames, due to the demand from the public for some carbon options.
