Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Caesar's Illawarra Cycle ClubFeature race, November 23, 2003Pearson from PearsonTwenty five hardy souls braved the conditions and ignored the forecast rain to take part in the 27km graded Feature race at Huntley on Sunday. As the old adage goes 'winners are grinners' and there were no complaints about the demanding conditions from the respective winners. A grade Joel Pearson, Mitchell Pearson, Luke Dale; A1 grade Frank Tortorici, Kirk Brown, Austin Pitman; B grade Adam Hotchkis, Mark O'Keefe, Phil Jones and C grades Mitchell Harris, Vince O'Dwyer and Bethany McCarthy. The race consisted of three laps from Huntley to Hooker hill with sprints each lap on the top of Hooker hill for the King of the Mountain (KOM) and at Huntley. The first three place getters at the sprints received bonus time deductions that were taken away from their elapsed race time to arrive at their overall time. It is a very strenuous and fatiguing form of racing but also exciting, as there is very little respite for the competitors. Joel Pearson won all three KOM's in A grade but was just pipped by his brother Mitch for honours at the Huntley sprints. Dale consistently picked up deductions at both sprints. Overall Joel proved too strong. In A1 grade Pitman and Mitchell Burns decided to try and win the race by getting away and almost did just that. After working well together for almost a lap they were brought back to the bunch by a mammoth effort by Brown within the last kilometre of the race. Although Tortorici and Brown won equal deductions at Huntley, Tortorici picked up 11 seconds deductions at Hooker hill to Brown's nil to take the win. Hotchkis reigned supreme in the B grade sprints at Huntley with two wins but only just held of O'Keefe for the overall victory by 2 seconds as O'Keefe picked up 10 seconds deductions at Hooker hill to Hotchkis's nil. O'Dwyer just stole second place to Harris from McCarthy by winning the final sprint after chasing for almost a lap. New member Melinda Sharpe had an excellent ride to remain with the bunch for the whole race. Next week's race is a 27km handicap with group 1 to marshal. Anyone who has not already entered should do so with Lionel.
