Elite Track Nationals in Trexlertown

By USA Cycling

Track racers from across the country are set to converge at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome beginning Tuesday, August 26 for the 2003 USCF Elite Track National Championships in Trexlertown. The action-packed five-day event promises to deliver national champions in 16 events including the team sprint and tandem sprint.

Competition begins on Tuesday, August 26 with men's and women's pursuit qualifications at 9:00a.m. Tuesday's evening session begins at 7:00 p.m. and will include men's keirin heats, repecharge heats, and finals as well as women's pursuit finals, women's sprint qualifying, and awards ceremonies.

Several reigning national champions will be in Trexlertown to defend their titles. Fresh off a successful Pan Am Games, Tanya Lindenmuth (Allentown, Pa.) and Jamie Carney (Boulder, Colo.) will look to add more hardware to their collection. Lindenmuth most recently won the women's sprint and keirin in Santo Domingo giving the four-time national champion (sprint and 500 m) a boost of confidence heading into the National Championships.

Lindenmuth commented on her Pan Am performances with Nationals on deck. "I'm excited to bring some hardware home," said Lindenmuth. "The energy that I've felt all week at the Pan Am Games will really propel me towards Nationals. I'm excited to go home and defend my titles."

2003 New York Cycling Championship winner and 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist Marty Nothstein (Trexlertown, Pa.) will also get back on the track in eastern Pennsylvania. The Navigators road rider will look to defend his title in the 10-mile scratch race as well as contend for medals in several other events during the five-day national contest.

Christian Stahl (Bethany, Conn.) will look to clinch the stars and stripes jersey in the men's kilo. The resident-athlete set a personal record of 1:04.810 at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany in early August and most recently won the silver medal in the kilo at the Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo.
