In a race which was marred by an unfortunate fall involving two well placed riders on the third last lap, Kaye, Vince O'Dwyer and Mark Owen, who were ahead of the incident, filled the top placings of C-grade. Criteriums are usually about who can mix a powerful sprint with just enough endurance to still be with the main bunch at the end of the race. Sunday's event was just that At three laps to go the scene changed when the rider's who had been driving the front of the bunch suddenly went out the back door. Dave Morris, Anna Habeck and Emma Ringer had been steadily working the front for almost the entire race. At the " 3 to go" signal the pace surged and the sprint contenders booked their seats. Coming out of the bottom corner for the last time Kaye kicked and led the charge to the line. O'Dwyer managed to get over a flagging Owen for second and third. Morris held on for fourth. The weekend also saw our Masters 3 Riders of Adam Rourke, Mick Kejda and, Grant Law compete in Lidcombe Auburn Open which also included State 10km Scratch Race Championships. The Rourke made a break from the field with 34 laps to go and continued to hold the gap to the end, only just missing out on lapping the field. Law and Kejda then fought with the rest of the field for 2nd and 3rd place. Both managed to hold out the challenges and make it a 1-2-3 for the Illawarra Club. Next week is the final summer 18 km Time Trial at Huntley. Marshals are to be provided by group 9.
