Carnegie Caulfield Criterium

Mulgrave, February 9, 2003

Report by Mal Sawford

With the A and B Grade riders doing battle in the St Kilda Festival Criteriums, C, D and E Grades had the run of Glenvale Crescent this morning. Good fields turned out, with some competitors heading into town afterwards to catch the Elite teams race.

Both races finished in bunch sprints, with some of the more experienced C Grade riders going out of their way to make sure none of the genuine B Graders had taken the soft option and tried to sneak into C Grade! Blackburn's Robert Regester took line honors in the dash to the line, ahead of Kim Marshall, young Alex Smyth and Cameron Rotter, with the Women's division taken out by Meaghan Godfrey on her new Giant carbon wonder machine.

Shepparton Junior Scott Peoples took out the D Grade bunch sprint, with the talented yougster leading home John Jones, Cheryl 'straight back to C Grade' Hickman and Blackburn Junior Sean Bourke. Hickman also took out the Women's Division from Gemma Goyne.

Carnegie Caulfield Criteriums continue every Sunday at Glenvale Crescent, with racing at the Necropolis commencing Tuesday January 7th at the Springvale Necropolis circuit. All holders of 2003 Cycling Australia licenses are welcome (don't forget to bring your license or receipt!) and non-members can have a go by taking out a three-race license for $39, deductible from your full membership if you decide to continue racing. For first time competitors, Tokyo Olympian Mick Hollingworth conducts racing clinics in E Grade.
