- The A and B grade combined bunch sets off on a relatively easy pace
- With plenty of corners and a massive bunch, the A and B grade peloton was soon strung out
- A and B grade riders speed pass the Melbourne docklands
- Earlier on in the race, Hilton Clarke (Carnegie Caulfield) goes off the front on his own
- Robert Tighello (Carnegie Caulfield) was a key protagonist in bringing back breakaway rider Clarke
- With Clark back in the main field, Tighello countered and soloed to a fine victory
