USCF National Track Championships - CNLehigh Valley Velodrome - Trexlertown, PA, August 27-31 2002Event program and results Men's 1km TT Women's 500m time trialLindenmuth Takes 500m Time Trial FinalsBy Kelly Walker, USA Cycling Hometown heroine Tanya Lindenmuth (Macungie, Pa.) won her second championship title of these 2002 USCF National Track Cycling Championships Friday morning, winning the women's 500m Time Trial. The 2000 Olympian won the event with a time of 36.765 seconds. This is Lindenmuth's fourth national title in the women's 500m time trials. "My start wasn't very strong this morning, but I was able to pull it together as I rounded the first corner," said Lindenmuth, who competed in the finals against 2001 World Junior Champion Sarah Uhl (Perkasie, Pa.). Uhl finished third in Friday's 500m time trials with a time of 37.618. "I was able to generate a lot of speed as the race progressed, and I always finish strong, so that really helped me today. This is my fourth national title in a row in the 500m time trials, so I'm really happy about this win." Second in the women's 500 was Rebecca Conzelman (Allentown, Pa.) with a time of 37.376. Conzelman is part of the very strong women's cycling program in Trexlertown, and credits her training with Lindenmuth and Uhl as key to her success. "It's great to train with Tanya and Sarah," said Conzelman. "We all push each other." "Becky rode a great race...her start is so strong," said Lindenmuth. "With Becky's strength in the sprint starts, and my strength in the finish, we can really learn from each other." The competition schedule at the 2002 USCF National Track Cycling Championships is now back on track, after rain delays forced event postponement on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday's evening session will feature the men's sprint finals and the first-ever women's keirin national championship, sponsored by GOT MILK? The winner of the keirin will automatically go to the World Championships in September. The men's madison, women's five-mile final and Paralympic 200m time trial finals will also be contested later Friday evening. PhotographyPhotos by Mike Gladu
