Erik Zabel's new Pinarello Dogma

Cyclingnews was lurking around the Team Telekom truck on the Friday before Milano-San Remo, hoping to catch a glimpse of Erik Zabel's new Pinarello Dogma. Thanks to photographer Roberto Bettini, we managed to get a few pictures of Zabel's new Pinarello and a few words from the 4 times winner of La Classicissima.

After a quick training spin north of Milano on his new Dogma, Zabel reported to Cyclingnews that "The Dogma is perfect for me, it's simply the best frame I've ridden! Really, the Dogma is an ideal mix between lightness, rigidity and comfort."

Zabel's Dogma for Milano-San Remo is made entirely from Deda magnesium AK61 tubes and the unique carbon fibre Onda front fork, the new Pinarello Full Carbon crankset and Dogma carbon stem. Team Telekom uses Campagnolo derailleurs and wheels and Zabel chose Campagnolo Hyperon wheels mounted with Continental tubulars in his quest for a 5th win at Milano-San Remo.

Cyclingnews spied the newest version of Bontrager wheels on the USPS bikes just prior to Milano-San Remo. USPS head wrench Geoff Brown told us "USPS is riding Race X-Lite Aeros as our wheel of choice for non-climbing races in 2003." USPS uses a tubular version, while the new Race X-Lite Aeros are available to the general public only in the clincher version.

The Bontrager X-Lite Aero clincher has a 30mm tall 6061 aluminium rim which is extruded, rolled, welded and machined smooth in the USA. Bontrager hubs are Swiss made, with 16 spokes front and rear, and are laced with 14g bladed stainless steel spokes.

Available with Shimano or Campy freehub bodies and also with a Powertap rear hub and wattage output meter. Bontrager X-Lite Aero clincher MSRP is $US725 / pair or $US1299 / pair in Powertap version.
