Lampre and Gerolsteiner on Wilier in 2003As reported back in our Interbike coverage, both the Lampre and Gerolsteiner teams will be on Wilier bikes next season. Gianmarco Cilli, the Vice President of Velo Imports, Inc.(US Distributor of Wilier Triestina) contacted Cyclingnews to show off the Izoard Team Edition bike that will be available to the two teams. The Izoard Team Edition has a scandium compact geometry frame with a thin layer of carbon fibre wrapped around the top, down and seat tubes. The stars of the two squads will also have the Galibier at their disposal, which is a carbon monocoque constructed frame with an oversized downtube. Lampre have also picked up the Angelo Nardelli 1951 brand and Asics as clothing sponsors. Burley introduces two high end steel road bikesBurley Design Cooperative, a US worker-owned cooperative with 90 members manufacturing bicycle trailers and tandems, is to make its 2003 road bike debut with two high-end steel road bikes. Named after two popular rides in Eugene, Oregon, the Wolf Creek comes fitted with Shimano Dura Ace components while the Fox Hollow is specced with Shimano Ultregra. The frames are manufactured from double-butted, heat-treated, air-hardened True Temper OX Platinum tubing and use straight chain stays and S bend seat stays. Machined head tubes, Breezer dropouts and a powder coat finish round out the picture. "Many of us at Burley ride road bikes and we wanted our own classic steel," Todd Bischoff, Bicycle Product Manager, said about Burley's entrance into the high-end road bicycle market. The bikes are available in 50cm to 62cm sizes and are priced at US$2,999 for the Wolf Creek and $1,899 for the Fox Hollow. Burley is a worker-owned cooperative with the 90 members manufacturing all the companies products. 2003 Maxxis Upstate New York Cycling Cup and Maxxis-SpokePost.com CyclingFurther to the news that Maxxis has entered road racing in a big way, Maxxis International have announced that they will be the title sponsor of the 2003 Maxxis Upstate New York Cycling Cup, a season long points competition in a "World Cup" style format for the Upstate New York and Ontario Canada regions. The Maxxis Upstate New York Cycling Cup will be the premier international amateur cycling competition in North America next season. The competition consists of two series, a "Spring Classics" series and a "Summer Series". Maxxis is also sponsoring the Maxxis-SpokePost.com Cycling Team (formerly Chris' Cookies), an elite amateur cycling team based in Upstate New York. Team West Virginia to ride Merlin bikes in 2003/2004Team West Virginia have announced their partnership with Merlin Metalworks. The team which is sponsored by the West Virginia Bureau of Tourism will be competing on the Merlin Magia and Extralight models and will tackle the National Racing Calendar events in 2003. Additional sponsors for the team are Cane Creek, ITM and Fizik.
