Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Mildura-Coomealla CC - Lunarfest CriteriumMarch 29, 2003By Peter Winton Stage 2 of the Mildura-Coomealla Cycling Club's Summer Series final was conducted in the soldier settlement irrigation town of Red Cliffs, Victoria. In the middle of town, adjacent Barclay Square, which houses "Big Lizzie", Club cyclists tracked up, down and around in wonderful conditions for a race. This circuit is a 600 metre flat course in a "T" shape with a short left turn section and return to the main drag with a long straight finishing stretch into the slight breeze. All eyes are on the "guns" in A grade with an inner battle in the "killer bees" between Liddle, Hale and Winton. These three separated by only a handful of points. Things went pretty standard for the most part. An intermediate sprint for B grade only kept the bunch together with all of us understanding as soon as that was over it would be goodbye to the "Guns". Sure enough, seconds after Richard Hale had secured his $20, Chris Baudry snapped into action and commenced to lap the field! In the wash up, Chris has lapped the "killer bees" twice and the remainder of A grade once. All this in the small chain ring! In the final lap Damian Wells (8th overall in the Central Australian Bike Challenge) proceeded to stack his machine on the second last corner. Richard Hale dug deep and lurched into the B grade lead from 3rd wheel. Brendan Liddle was caught napping and couldn't bridge the gap at the chalky line. Dion Basse-Anstee then rubbed salt into the "wounded' President relegating him to 4th. Points chase hots up for tomorrow's stage 3, the 50km scratch championship road race.
