In what must surely be his last outing in C grade, Easts rider Craig Dempsey got the money, seven points in the Series and another five points in the C grade competition. Dave Jackson continued his good form by claiming second in front of Duncan Markham, Randwick Botany stalwart Sean Ballesty and lone Sydney Club representative Andrew Hudson. What was notable about the C grade win was that it was achieved on a night when Chief Handicapper, Easts 'D.S.' and C grade organiser, you know who, Frank C wasn't racing! The advantage in the Series lead however still rests with Anthony Spurgeon who holds onto his slim two point advantage from World Champion Teams Pursuitist, Mark Renshaw. Another big turnout as almost 90 riders spread evenly across the three grades lined up on yet another warm, but windy Sydney summers evening. Bolstering the B grade bunch were a strong contingent of elite women riders which included 2002 World Cup Champion Petra Rossner resplendent in her new Equipe Nurnberger team gear, team mate and current German Womens Road Champion Judith Arndt and no stranger to Heffron Park, local star Rochelle Gilmore. The presence of this elite company still didn't motivate B grade to race with any intent and inevitably A grade had wiped out the 1.30 advantage after only eight laps. The first sprint lap at seven to go was once again contested by Randwick Botany junior riders Robbie Cater and Chris Jenkins who continue to build their lead in the sprint king competition. There didn't seem to be any panic in the 25+ bunch of A and B grade riders as the C grade lead slowly start to diminish in the closing laps, but perhaps a little bit of complacency had crept in, as at the bell it was suddenly obvious C grade were going to hold it all the way to the line. Not even the big motor turns which Mark Renshaw and Stuart Dangerfield pulled on the last lap made any real impression on the C grade lead, so it was simply left to sprint for the envelope which Jono Davis did impressively from another strong finish by Nathan Russell. Matt Lucas took the envelope for the 1st B grade rider. Racing continues at Heffron on Saturday afternoon's with the Randwick Botany club races which get underway at 2.30pm.
