Steve Hogg (Sydney Cycling Club), from Pedal Pushers Bike Shop, Randwick, joined 26 other riders and finished with the bunch. Dorothee Grun from the RC Guenther Koeln-Longerich cycling club in Koeln, Germany returned for a hit-out in B-Grade, having ridden strongly in C-Grade last week. Cater won easily in a time of 48min 53sec averaging just under 40kph. Patrick Naughton (Bicisport) started the bunch sprint for the minor placings and scored second in A-Grade. The third A-Grader was Saxon Johns from Eastern Suburbs. B-Grade placings went to Roger Crawford (Randwick Botany) 49min 35sec, David McPherson (Randwick Botany) and David McHugh (Sydney). Recently promoted D-Grade rider and bike courier Peter McDonald had his first start in C-Grade and proceeded to lead the 19-rider bunch for most of the 28km race. Tony Caruana (Randwick Botany) and McDonald broke away in the closing stages but Templeton’s final break on the last lap caused the field to string out. In the final 400m, Caruana rolled McDonald to take first place in a time of 45min 53sec and average speed of 37kph. Minor placings when to Greg Smart, Scott Rice, Alex Templeton, Jonathon Hogard, Tony Horneman, Kevin Huang, Craig Clement, Adam Chandler (Marconi Fairfield) and Shaun Ballesty. Phillip Chippendale stepped up to C-Grade this week and rode strongly but finished out of the placings. Nineteen riders competed in the D-Grade 20km race with Simon Llewllyn (Dulwich Hill) finishing first in a time of 35min 16sec, following by Felix Tucci (Waratah Veterans) and Randwick Botany’s Andrew Young.
