Cyclingnews' 2002 Top Ten - Photography
Narrowing the list of over 10,000 photos down to a Top 10 is a task comparable
to Hercules cleaning out the Augean stables. Instead I've cheated slightly -
the 10 themes below attempt to cover a variety of highlights from the three
Grand Tours, with some additions from the rest of the year as well. Cyclingnews
receives many of its photos from volunteer contributors, who this year have
excelled themselves. Thanks to all who contributed photos in 2002.

Livestock
For some reason animals also like to get in on the act - particularly cows!

Scenery
Although the riders don't have much time to enjoy their surroundings, the territory
they cover is varied and beautiful for the spectators...

Sometimes no-one can see the scenery as the weather intrudes - riding through
this is just part of the job...

Teamwork
Aiding their leaders up hills, chasing down breaks, blocking the oncoming winds,
bringing water, giving wheels - great winners need supportive teams.

The Race of Truth
But just getting up the hills isn't good enough, it's necessary to be able
to maintain speed while wearing a funny hat as well...
