Results and Reports for July 13-19, 2002USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Lehigh VelodromeJuly 12, 2002Nothstein Wins double-header of Keirin Cup and 150-lap Madison CupThe Fastest Man on Wheels graced the Lehigh Valley Velodrome with its presence on Friday, July 12, featuring Nestor's Keirin Cup and Bicycling Magazine Madison Cup. The weather could not have been better, and the racing reflected the perfect summer day. To top off the great performances, 2000 Olympian Marty Nothstein raced the Madison and the Keirin, offering the other riders some serious competition. Nestor's Keirin Cup was definitely a crowd-pleaser, with exciting Results in the men's and women's races. Sarah Uhl stole first place in the Women's Keirin Cup Final away from second place finisher Cindy Lakatosh and third place finisher Ashley Kimmet. The men gave an equally compelling performance, even though Darren Harry suffered a fall in the last lap, leaving Marty Nothstein to snag first place ahead of Ryan Oelkers, who took second, and Leigh Bryan, who settled for third. The Madison Cup 50-Lap Chase became a showdown of strength, power and endurance as the teams jockeyed for positions over each other. After a couple of close calls, Marty Nothstein and his German teammate, Erik Weispfennig, edged out partners Jeff Hopkins and Mike Tillman and the team of Ryan Oelkers and Graeme Miller in the final standings. The Madison Cup 100-Lap Chase took the crowd's breath away as the teams continued to keep everyone guessing as to who would take first place. Eventually that question was answered when Nothstein and Weispfennig pushed it into high gear at the last stretch of the race. Nothstein, his legs pumping furiously to the very end, claimed victory with Weispfennig over second place finishers Jeff Hopkins and Mike Tillman and third place finishers Ryan Oelkers and Graeme Miller. The crowd was brought to their feet as the race drew to a close, cheering Nothstein on as he crossed the finish line.
