Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews San Diego 2 Day MadisonSan Diego Velodrome, October 2-3, 2004The SDVA is pleased to announce the results of the San Diego 2 Day Madison at the San Diego Velodrome, held Oct 2-3. Racers ranged from the young Daniel Holloway (US Junior champion at everything and paired with Scott Evans, 3rd overall) to the perpetually fleet Shaun Wallace who used his speed and years of 6-day experience to race to 2nd with his solid teammate Eric Hollenbeck. The overall was won by strongman Curtis Gunn teamed with Adam Smith, a very quick local racer soon to be competing in Cuba. We also had the pleasure of Olympian Josiah Ng paired with current US Champion Becky Quinn; although the pair finished a lap down they were second on points and they delighted racers and fans alike with their displays of speed; in fact the racing was suspended after their flying one-lap and standing two-lap races to allow the track to stop smoking. Also on hand was Erik Saunders who mercifully did not take ten laps out of the field but instead worked with partner Odie O'Dell to a 4th place finish. The pair actually finished even with the constantly aggressive pair of Tommy Dahill and Javier Casteneda but were placed higher overall due to more victories in individual events. Ross Brawn and Matt Hoffman put in a fine show in the final 70 lap madison, spending most of the race racking up points with the Dahill/Casteneda pair. Also in fine form were Kevin Shiller and Jeremy Mucha who race regularly at the San Diego Velodrome. The virtual pairing of Bush/Kerry, while quite adroit at mudslings, stank at handslings and missed every exchange. The event was followed by a season-end barbecue for racers and every single spectator, although the inevitable seed-spitting contest was precluded by the use of seedless watermelon. The SDVA plans to display more exciting racing at their upcoming swapmeet on November 7th.
