Results and Reports for the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Asheville Mellowdrome Rumble on the River #4June 15, 2004By Asheville Velodrome Group As was the custom a year ago, rain is the story currently. This was the make up night for #4, originally scheduled for June 8. Some of it was rained out still, but not all of it. The B Grade road bikers mustered a good field and a new winner emerged. Jamie Arnold jousted with Alex Bryenton throughout the 30 laps and prevailed by a few points. Joining them for the spoils was Mr. Will Sagar who otherwise spends his Tuesday nights officiating and keeping score. Way to go Will. Although not present this time, Jeff Frazier still leads the season point count. The A guys got underway for a few laps. However, with 52 still to run, the rain commenced and washed out their event. Joey Coddington still leads from Jacob McGahey, and the defending champ knows he missed a chance to pile it on against a depleted field. And earlier, the fixed gear fields were combined and ran two events. In the absence of Frodo Hobgood, Andrew Erskine took the Scratch Race opener while The Diesel made off with the Snowball Race. Mr. Riedesel is steadily debunking the common belief that he makes a habit of detonating himself for peanuts. After going all out on lap two, and just missing on three, the smirk in the bunch was that George would now be passed as if he were tied to a stump. But no! The Diesel slipped into the group for a brief rest and then pocketed lap six which gave him a total that stood up for the win. The co-founder of the Asheville Velodrome Group is preparing for a July pilgrimage to T-Town, and is going good as summer sets in. The points race was cancelled and replaced by a feast of burritos courtesy Rio Burrito. See you all next week.
