Parramatta boy blitzes field in Queensland Carnival's Senior Wheelrace

Former Junior World Champion Sean Hopkins blistering speed and anticipation won him the Senior Wheelrace during the first carnival of the Inaugural Queensland Summer of Cycling six day carnival.

Brisbane Wynnum Redlands Club hosted the carnival at Chandler, with Kangaroo Point Club hosting Wednesday's carnival.

Hopkins, who rides for Paramatta, came from the 10m mark and worked his way through the big field to score a narrow victory.

Back markers World Championship and Commonwealth Games medallist Danny Day, and World Champion Kial Stewart were unable to catch Hopkins and Junior World Champion Wade Cosgrove.

Hopkins sat behind Cosgrove's wheel before making his move with 150m to go.

Queensland Track star Danny Day, a World Championship and Commonwealth Games Medallist was victorious in the 10km senior scratch race over Hopkins and rising Rockhampton star Grant Irwin.
