Friday Night Winter Track Racing
Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney, May 17, 2002
Friday Night Winter Track Racing got off to a great start on Friday evening, May 17, 2002, with 45 riders competing at the Dunc Gray Olympic Velodrome.
Racing was conducted in three open Men's divisions and one open Women's division. The format adopted by race promoter Kevin Young, saw riders competing in four races, two of which were individual events and two team events.
The team events proved extremely popular with riders, as the focus turned from speed to tactics. Close finishes were the order of the night with a number of outstanding performances; Leonie Burford and Keely McNamarra in the Women's category, Nick Bregolin and Jesus Bellow Division 3, Andrew Grant & Chris Young Division 2 and the Fitzpatrick brothers, Steve & Peter together with Patrick Naughton in Division 1.
Brad & Lionel Cox's development session started the evening with seven junior riders and a number of the AIS Women's Talent Identification Development Squad joining in to pick up a few tips for the evening racing.
