Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track RacingDunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney, September 9, 2005The Veloflex 1km Wheel race for Div 4Felice from Cycling Projects once again showed his support to FNWTR, this time in the form of over $400 worth of prizes for the Div 3 Veloflex Wheel race. Cycling Projects is the Australian distributor of Campagnolo, Veloflex Tyres and ZeroRh+ sunglasses. Our usual handicapper (Peter Barnard) was busy in Manchester trying to win Australia another World Title so we had a couple of guest handicappers, who were scratching their heads at some of the names on the start list. Once they sorted it all out, they placed Cass Kell on Scratch and Riley Sullivan (Hunter District) on limit at 110m. The Scratchies formed a group early but were never really in the hunt for victory. Up front, Central Coast's Jeff Morris caught all the leaders and hit the front hard. He was enjoying his first FNWTR for 2005 and looked like he had the goods to win. Unfortunately for Jeff, six months off the bike does weird things to your body, one of which is the lack of endurance needed to complete 1000m at full pace. On the last lap Jeff went backwards almost as fast as he went forward. It was then time for the middle markers to take over. Led by Ben Elliot, they blasted passed the suffering leader and with 200m to go Bryan Haydon took over and was never challenged. The Rev (Glen Samuel) did his typical "come round everyone at the last minute" to claim third. When this guy learns to start a sprint from the front, he will start winning more. The Kierin rounds were of course fantastic and many thanks to Phil Dixon and Alex Simmons for riding the derny. The Miss'N'Out Point score again proved to be one of the most fascinating events ever seen on the track. The Division 1 race was again won by James Schneider who has now ended the 2005 series undefeated in this event. Next week, Sept 16, is the penultimate FNWTR for 2005. The feature race will be the Hillbrick Racing Frames 1km Wheel race for Div 1. This is one of the last chances for riders to qualify for the Campagnolo wheel race on Sept 23. Paul Hillbrick will be on hand to promote the Goulburn to Sydney race which needs to be supported by the cycling community.
