Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Mersey Valley - Devonport Cycling ClubForestry Tasmania Carnival - January 16, 2005By Rod Morris In Latrobe Ulverstone's Ben Price scored an important double to wrest the lead back of international dual gold medal Olympian Graeme Brown at yesterday's Mersey Valley - Devonport Cycling Club's annual Forestry Tasmania Carnival. Price , after winning both the MVDCC Forestry Tasmania Wheelrace and 1000 m Lightning Handicap, as well as finishing third in the A Grade Scratch - will now carry an important one point lead in Cycling Tasmania's Rider-of-the-Season award into next week's St Helens Carnival, the final hit out for the 2004-05 summer: Price is the defending champion in the award and with the expected absence of Brown at St Helens next Saturday, will carve his own slice of history by becoming the first dual winner of the CT award. Price was in flash form at the MVDCC Carnival - held at Latrobe - winning the 2000 m wheelrace from his Ulverstone teammate Kaidan Homan and Devonport rider John Rayner - who this week will represent Australia at the Youth Olympics in Sydney: The CT award is conducted throughout all Tasmanian track carnivals, offering riders a sliding points-scale of points on all handicap finals and scratch races. Launceston based Kailee Goodwin made full use of her 160 m handicap to win the MCDCC Women's Wheelrace from Tiffany Manion and Alitta Laskey: Both the men's and women's scratch races caused some surprises - Daniel Cutting upset hot favourite Nathan Clarke to win the A Grade, whilst in the women's race Devonport's Natasha Mapley - who will also ride in the Youth Olympics, destroyed her opposition, including the in-form Laura McCaughey. The latter, however, will carry an unassaibale lead in the CT Women's Championship to St Helens next week. Major winners of the junior wheelraces included Ben Grenda (Under 17), Karissa Ling (U15) and Daniel Roberts (U13).
