Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track RacingDunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney, August 26, 2005Rebel Sport kindly donated a limited edition Bradley McGee Tour 05 pair of knicks and jersey along with 3 x 1.2kg packets of Powerade to make a substantial prize pool worth $300. The scratch rider for the night was Joel Chant however, it was the rider off 25m, Julian Yuen, who was creating all the excitement. The Lidcombe rider got a fantastic start and managed to pass many riders to eventually catch the leading group with over a lap to go. The huge effort that Julian put into the start took its toll and he was unable to raise the energy to contest the final sprint for the line and had to be content with 4th place. Out front, the young Illawara rider Scott Law was ready to unleash his unbelievable sprint. He was closely followed by Carl Holleman who was unable to get over Scott in the finishing straight. Scott crossed the line and immediately punched the air clearly elated at winning the Rebel Sport prize. I know the Law family has close ties with Bradley McGee and there is no doubt that Scotty will be hanging out for Brad to come home this summer so he can show off his prestigious prize. Scott wears the number 12.25 which is a reference to his U15 Australian 200m fly record that he set last track season. Expect to see his number to get smaller year by year. Scott, Carl and Jenny Loutit are our first qualifiers of the end of season Cycling Projects Wheelrace. Along with the Rebel Sport prizes Scott was also presented with an A4 portrait of him winning the event. This was presented to him by David Birss from Epsom Rd Studios. I would like to thank the involvement of the Wheelrace sponsors and urge FNWTR supporters to support those who support us - www.rebelsport.com.au and www.epsomrdstudios.com.au Italian pursuits always build in excitement, along with speed - however, the excitement came very early in the first race with Joel Chant collecting a wheel and coming down, leaving Ross Harding nowhere to go. Ross is a powerful, muscular rider and when he finally hit the track he left a gouge that was, in the words of two very experienced track Commissaires, "the worst they had ever seen". Despite the massive amount of damage to the track Ross was able to walk away from the carnage. Racing had to be halted to allow for some serious repairs. Ross was later presented with one of the many strips of the track to remember the incident by. In fact, he will be able to relive the moment when he gets to see the footage which is bound to make the end of year highlights DVD in all its glory. The Madison was, of course, simply breathtaking. Tomlinson and Spencer rode superbly in what seemed like an 'all teams against Tomlinson' affair. On the line Kial Stewart and James Schnieder took a narrow victory. Due to an error on my part Div 5 riders only got 3 races. I would like to apologise to this division and would like to offer those riders a $5 entry fee for next week's race.
