Seven teams of six riders were fielded for the men's series, while 16 women rode in the first of the MB Coaching Women's Grand Prix Series and 16 men contested the support races, this week supported by Tyrepower Morningside. During the off-season the Kangaroo Point team was strengthened by the acquisition of World Junior Madison Champion Miles Olman, the dominant rider of the night's endurance events. On Saturday Olman rode anchor for their successful Italian pursuit team, convincingly won the elimination race and took most of the points in the Chandler teams race at the end of the night. Joel Davis added to Kangaroo Point's tally when he won the sprint derby from Julian Samios (MB Coaching). As he had successfully done in his heat, Samios lead out from the first lap and Davis was the only rider to respond, leaving team-mate Daniel Rynne to control the back half of the race while Davis sat on Samios' wheel before smacking him on the last bend. In the MB Coaching women's series Kathie Grigg, Nicole Hanssen and Wendy Habermann shared the spoils. Highlight of the women's evening was the MB Coaching women's grand prix 3 lap handicap. Fourteen women contested the first of the five part series sponsored by Lape & Partners. Limit rider Anna Sheridan (Lifecycle) maintained the lead for the first lap before being caught by middle markers led by Kim Pettigrew (Lifecycle). With one lap to go, Kathie Grigg of Lifecycle accelerated out of the bunch of seven riders with Kim Pettigrew hard on her wheel. At this stage, the back markers, Wendy Habermann (scratch) and Nicole Hanssen were within thirty metres of the leading two riders. Julie Barnett (Goldstars) made a dash for the line with Terese McAuliffe of Balmoral hot on her heels. Kathie Grigg rode to victory with Julie Barnett 2nd and Terese McAuliffe 3rd. Ben Holmes took all the money on offer for the men's support events except the Tyrepower Morningside 4 lap wheelrace, a nicely handicapped event that saw all the groups come together in the final straight, with Leo Priest emerging as the winner, followed by Ben Sheers and David Reid.
