Day 2 - October 19

Go Franky-boy!

The second day started with Robert Slippens and Danny Stam as the overnight leaders, who defended well after winning the opening team elimination event ahead of Scott McGrory (Aus) and Franco Marvulli (Swi).

However, powerful riding saw Jammi Madsen and Frank Vandenbroucke win the next two derny rounds respectively, with Matthew Gilmore taking the elimination. Slippens and Stam came back shortly afterwards in the 1 lap team time trial with a superb time of 10.63 seconds (67.7 km/h), again ahead of McGrory and Marvulli, bringing their total past the 100 point mark. But when the Aussie/Swiss combo won the ensuing Supersprint, three teams went into the Madison on almost equal terms.

Attacking early into the piece, audacious riding by Gilmore and Vandenbroucke reaped big rewards for the Belgian pairing, and in the end, their efforts could only be tolerated by two pairs, Aart Vierhouten (Ned)/Andreas Beikirch (Ger) and Italians Marco Villa/Giovanni Lombardi, who all finished on the same lap.

Slippens and Stam recovered well to finish one lap behind in sixth place, enough to keep themselves at the top of the leaderboard, with the final events of the night bringing no change. VDB continued his good form by taking the final Derny race, before the evening concluded in spectacular fashion with McGrory/Marvulli setting a track record in the 3 lap team time trial (34.21 seconds), bringing them within five points of Slippens and Stam by the night's end.
