The usual Launceston City Cycling Club racing also incorporated the Tasmanian scratch race titles for all divisions, with large numbers of seniors and juniors vying for the medals on offer. The junior titles produced some very even and exciting racing, the under 15 women was a very close finish between Georgetown clubmates Melissa Barnes and Bethany Coleman, with Coleman just taking the honours. The under 15 men was a terrific race with Ben Grenda leading out at the bell and looking a clear winner until Brendan Sutton made his way through some heavy traffic to motor home up the straight and take gold. The under 17 women was a closely fought affair throughout, until Samantha Hellyer kicked clear of Carrie Price in the final stages. Burnie's Sean Oliver showed his strength in the under 17 men, breaking away at 10 to go and showing the field a clean pair of wheels to take the win, despite strong efforts from the chasing bunch, particularly Aaron Jones. The open womens race looked like a bunch sprint would occur, until Natsha Mapley attacked and the remaining 4 riders played cat and mouse. Mapley stayed away to take the win with American Becky Conzelman winning the bunch sprint for second. The combined under 19, under 23 and open men provided one of the best state title fields seen in Tasmania for many years, featuring scratchmen Nathan Clarke and Jame Carney, the last two Launceston Wheel winners Matt Goss and Brendan Geale, top road riders Matt Rice and Caleb Manion, American Gui Neilessen, wily veteran Laurie Venn and Devonport's Daniel Cutting, returning from a bad fall at the christmas carnivals. The tempo was high from the outset of the 50 lap race. The field stayed together for the first 40 laps, until Cutting showed that he was back in form by jumping away at ten to go. The main bunch was slow to react, and Cutting capitalised by building on his lead and at five to go was looking strong. Some big turns in the bunch gradually whittled away his lead and at two to go the sprinters were lining up waiting for the bell. Two time Devonport Oval Wheel winner Ryan Johnson decided to spoil the party and kicked clear. Nathan Clarke realised the danger and chased down Johnson, going round him with half a lap remaining. Clarke looked a winner until Carney unleashed his trademark sprint to take the win, with Clarke hanging on for second ahead of Brendan Geale. Carney continued to frustrate his rivals for the rest of the evening, taking out the A grade Elimination and Scratch races, with Clarke runner up on both occasions.
