Mersey Valley-Devonport CC Club Championship

Tasmanian scratchman Nathan Clarke won his fourth Mersey Valley - Devonport Cycling Club championship when he outlasted Gareth Atkins in the final race of the 2003-04 track season earlier this week.

Clarke won the MVDCC Scratch Race championship ahead of Atkins and in doing so, stretched his lead from 1-point to 3 to win the overall title. Both Clarke and Atkins have enjoyed a consistent summer, featuring in many of the major races throughout the Basslink Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals Series and carried that form into the club titles.

Clarke was in sensational form at the MVDCC track meeting this week, winning the scratch title, the warm-up scratch, the 2000 m handicap and then combining with 17-year-old Natasha Mapley to win the Madison, ahead of Gareth Atkins and John Rayner.

Junior club titles started this week with scratch race titles going to Ben Fielding (Under 17), Brenden Sutton (Under 15) and Brandon Stewart (Under 13). The MVDCC will continue with more junior titles next Tuesday. Meanwhile the MVDCC is conducting street circuit criteriums each Wednesday night in Ulverstone.
