Neilessen takes points race

American Gui Neilessen completed a successful trip to Tasmania by producing a dominant ride in his final race before flying back home. Neilessen placed in the first two events, behind Ben Price in the 30 lap scratch race and the Derby, but it was the final race of the evening, the 40 lap points score that he gave his fans something to remember. Nielessen attacked after the first sprint at 35 to go, and despite some powerful efforts from the chasing bunch continued to pick up the points every 5 laps. With some strong crowd support Neilessen sealed his win by lapping the field at 7 to go. Ryan Johnson completed a consistent evening to finsh a distant second to the American.

The senior fields were quite low with many riders heading to the Tour of Canberra, but the junior riders compensated with large fields in all grades. The Under 17 division was swelled by the addition of two Victorian riders, Lee Howard and Lee Haussa, and former national medallist Will Robinson, returning to the saddle after a long lay off due to glandular fever. The Victorians, along with Will's younger brother Tom were dominant, but Will showed that he is back on track by finishing second to Howard in the final 15 lap scratch race.

Scottsdale's Ben Grenda continued his run towards the state titles by winning all 3 Under 15 races. Jake Laskey and Stephen Heppell had a terrific tussle in the Under 13 division, with Heppell taking two wins and Laskey one.
