Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track Racing week 9Dunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney, August 13, 2004Bring out the beastBy Paul Craft The Keirin series always brings out the beast in everyone. The feature race for night was "The Div 4 Australian SportsBook 1km Wheelrace". Up for grabs was $170 worth of betting vouchers from Australian Sportsbook. The Handicap belonged to the limit markers. Although scratch-man Paul Worby tried hard, the effort of catching the leaders took its toll and he was unable to place in the final sprint. Starting from 120m Josh Dolan went out hard but was pursued by the experienced Brian Hopkins (105m). Brian overcame the youngster with one lap to go and maintained a steady speed to claim the $100 prize. Josh struggled home to hold out Warwick McAlpine who won the middle markers bunch sprint. Warwick from Australian SportsBook was on hand to make the presentation and to inform FNWTR patrons of the wide range of betting options. He invited everyone to view the odds for themselves on www.sportsbook.com.au . I would like to thank Australian SportsBook for showing their support. Janelle Lyndsay was polishing her tandem sprinting before heading to Athens. For the first time to my knowledge patrons were treated to a tandem Kierin. The Tandem racing has proven to be a crowd pleaser and I would like to thank Tom Skulander for his efforts in co-ordinating this display. Tank Dougherty, who was a driving force in keeping Ben Kersten on form, rode the derny for the keirins. All up he rode 17 races for the night. As always each event was hotly contested. An awful crash in the Div 4 Miss'N'Out wiped out three of FNWTR personalities. Penny Rowbothem scored herself a huge shiner and 6 stitches to a cut below her eye. Warwick McAlpine is shopping for a new helmet and Paul Worby is nursing a very stiff shoulder. The odd thing about this crash was that the participants all seemed more concerned about each others injuries than their own. It has been reported that Penny and Paul were both spotted racing again on Saturday. Jason Roberts continues to show his improving talent by winning the Div 3 + 4 combine. In the process he scored himself a dinner for two at Bankstown Sports Club. Many thanks to Graham Lawson for passing on this wonderful prize. Unfortunately due to the late conclusion of the night the final round NSWCF+NSWIS Time Blaster had to be canned. But that means that the next edition will be worth $100. Next week will be huge with a new sponsor Veloflex supporting the Div 1 Wheelrace. Also stay tuned to this weeks news letter. I have a huge announcement about the winter program. Till next week, Paul Interesting Olympic facts: The first break of the road race contained Virenque, Backstedt and Bodrogi wearing numbers 19, 91 and 127 respectively. The sum of each of these numbers is 10. It's a bit freaky that this trio got caught at the start of lap 10. ResultsMortgagemaker Junior Development demonstration.
