Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track Racing #4Dunc Gray Velodrome, June 20, 2003By Paul Craft Once again a great night was had by all who attended. The junior development squad started proceedings with an exciting display of their skills, as the rest of the riders cheered on, before getting their own chance to show off. Arguably the stand out rider for the night was young Skye Armstrong from Parramatta. In every race she rode she placed in the top 4. The most spectacular of these was the 2B group Handicap. Skye waited until all the scratch riders were exhausted before she launched herself at the leaders only missing the win by a few meters. The Div 2 wheelrace saw Alex Krawchuk (Waratah Vets) take honours off a 60m handicap. Alex continued his good form throughout the night to be the man to beat in the remaining races. Rising star Phil Stokes has thrown down the Gauntlet to Shaun Hopkins in division1. The two riders raged a battle for supremacy, throughout the night, with Hopkins coming out on top 22points to 20 for the pointscore series. Eve Hood showed herself to be one to watch as she took control of all her races accumulating an amazing 27points along the way. The evening was topped off with the always-popular video replay of the nights racing in the Handle Bar Tavern, along with the excellently valued cyclist’s pasta. In the teams pointscore four teams appear to be separating themselves from the rest. Bicisport 379 Waratah Vets 356 Parramatta 349 and Marconi 296. Of these 4 teams, the one who should be of most concern is Parramatta. Although they haven't got as many riders as the other teams they certainly have the talent with four of their riders scored above 20 points on Friday night. If patronage of this club increases at FNWTR I think they may be the team to beat. Next week will see the first of the monthly madisons, I will email everyone with news and information during the week. If you are reading this off cyclingnews.com and want to be added to this list let me know at pcraft@vtown.com.au. Next week will see many of our riders heading off to Muswellbrook, so numbers may be down for the night. Maybe this is a good opportunity for some new riders to give FNWTR a try.
