No rain this week, and the full program was completed without interruption. Numbers were up, and if the trend continues, an extra grade will be run in coming weeks.

The highlight of the day was Doug Garley's (Terry Hammond Cycles) new track record for the 4000 meter motor paced pursuit. Despite the windy conditions, Garley produced a time of 4'32.31 behind the vintage Derny ridden by former Australian Champion Daryl Perkins. Track record attempts will be a regular feature of the Club racing program, organized by Bill Bowker and Mick Hollinworth.

Regular Swiss visitor Markus Kammermann dominated the A Grade endurance events and the Overall, taking out both the Elimination and Points races, and only being narrowly beaten by a fast finishing Cam Wise (Pro-Motion/Cycle Finesse) in the opening Scratch race. Hayden Mead (O'Mara Cycles) completed a Chelsea quinella in the Sprint, leading home Jeremy McLay and Mal Sawford, before Kammermann showed his strength and experience to take out the Elimination from local hero Warren Knevitt (O'Mara) and Hamish Taylor (Fitzroy Cycles). Knevitt took second behind the Swiss rider in the 50 lap Points race, in a count-back from the constantly attacking Jeremy Childs (Croydon Cycles).

Darren Cathie dusted off his track bike after a two year hiatus, and proved too strong for the otherwise young B Grade field. Cathie took wins in the Sprint and Elimination, with the Scratch race well won by Bill Prosser. Michael Downing (Le Tour Cycles) had the upper hand in endurance, taking a one point win over Junior rival Pete Johnstone (O'Mara) in the final Points Race, with Cathie settling for third, enough to give him the Overall on the day.

Carnegie Caulfield Track racing resumes on December 20, with racing next Saturday at Blackburn for their popular Christmas Carnival. Training races are also held at the Packer Park Velodrome on Thursday evenings at 6pm, weather permitting.
