Price winds up for carnivals

Ulverstone teenager Ben Price continued to gain momentum for the coming Basslink Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals Series with two solid performances at last week's Mersey Valley - Devonport Cycling Club track meeting.

Price (17) won the MVDCC Keirin Championship when he held off a fast finishing Gareth Atkins, with former world junior champion Mark Jamieson away in third place.

Less than an hour later, Price backed up with a win over Gareth Atkins and Nathan Clarke in the Senior 5 km scratch.

Last weekend, Price qualified for the Melbourne Cup on Wheels and won his C Grade Scratch race at the Vodafone Arena carnival and is growing in expectation for something special throughout Christmas week.

The MVDCC welcomed back junior rider Matthew Bonham after a short time off the bike, while outstanding riders on the night included Brandon Stewart, Madison Catlin and Daniel Jamieson.

The MVDCC will transfer racing to the Latrobe Recreation Ground next Tuesday night for the re-vamped Patrick's Latrobe Trial Wheel, but will return to the Devonport Oval on December 16 for the annual Devonport Trial Wheel.
