The trade show season now moves to Milan, the renowned style capital of the world. With the World Championships in Verona just a week away, EICMA 2004 boasts record attendance and 665 brands on display as cycling in Italia reaches fever pitch. Chrome dome

Here is Northwave's new chrome model Aerator for 2005, the shoe of choice for Spanish cycling star Alejandro Valverde. For 2005, Northwave has created a version of their Aerator shoe featuring three velcro straps called Aerator3 for riders who prefer this type of closure over a mechanical buckle.

Petacchi's pedal pushers

The world's top road sprinter, Alessandro Petacchi, relies on DMT shoes to put the pedal to the metal and next season, Ale-Jet will use DMT's new high-end Flash model with unidirectional carbon fibre sole.

Who let these dogs out?

Sidi's brought out a limited edition run of their top-of-the-line Ergo 1 carbon shoes sport this shiny mirror-finish Lorica synthetic leather.

Sidi also has a new version of their best-selling Genius model, called Genius5 Hi-Tech Carbon Fibre, mated to Sidi's more rigid carbon sole.

Pedal alternative

Miche has developed a new pedal with many interesting features. The MT4 has a 9mm cleat height that keeps the shoe close to the pedal axle, a non-slip rubber surface and replaceable side protection inserts. Miche MT4 is available in four color choices for riders who want to match their pedals to the bike.

Compact carbon cranks

FSA has been at the forefront of the development of carbon fibre cranks as well as compact cranksets, so it's no wonder that their new SL-K Mega Exo crankset has received so much attention this show season.

With it's multi-directional carbon fibre and 24mm hollow chromo spindle, which insert into the outboard cartridge bearings, FSA's SL-K Mega Exo crankset is the compact alternative to their K-Force Mega Exo crankset for riders who prefer to go compact. FSA's Claudio Marra also showed us their new Platinum Pro BB for 2005 (top). Note the difference between the new silver BB, with 22mm bearing width versus the previous model (bottom) with a 10mm bearing surface.

Selle Italia has a new gel flow version of their SLC saddle for 2005, with a carbon undercarriage for lighter weight.

Time savers

ITM's new integrated CX2 carbon fibre TT bars are the choice of top riders like FdJeux.com's Aussie star Brad McGee and British Olympic pursuit champ Brad Wiggins.

Naturale o bianco? ITM's Flavio Tizian was also happy to show Cyclingnews his firm's new Millenium Carbon Wing Shape Super Oversize (31.8mm) bar and stem set in both natural and white carbon fibre.

Vision Tech's Carbon Pro Clip On aero bars feature special ergonomic carbon fibre extensions and weigh a reported 400 grams. Just below are Vision Tech's Aero Base bars; ergo shaped and built with 6000 series aluminum for strength and light weight (250 grams, according to FSA).

Hey good lookin'

Italian titanium specialist Nevi uses tubing from American manufacturer Ancotech. Their new Grimsel model has white carbon fibre and tone-on-tone accents to make it one of the best looking bikes at EICMA 2004.

Super Nova

Monza bike builder Casati is known for some of the most refined artisan bicycles in Italy and for 2005, Casati had this jewel-like Nova model, with Deda hydroformed tubes and swoopy carbon fibre rear triangle that's reminiscent of Pinarello's Onda.

Another string to Casati's 2005 line-up is their Arte model, featuring carbon tubes mated with aluminium lugs. Here's a detail shot of the head tube with cut-out lugs.

One is the number

A major hit at the EICMA Milano show, Colnago's new E-1 offers top-end carbon fibre for a more affordable price than Colnago super premium President or C50. Sloping geometry and Shimano's new Ultegra 10 speed group are other key features of the E-1. Here's a detail shot, showing the E-1's innovative new frame decoration.
