A lactic Christmas

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to ride in the A grade bunch today! Then you wake from your lactic enduced coma up and find that it really did happen, getting stonkered by Kevin Tankard and Rob McNally - what a lovely early Xmas present the handicapper delivered today.

There were quite a number of regulars away, with two in Canberra for the half iron-man and others either on holidays or battling with "festive season-itis" - a virus attributed to CUB breweries. 14 riders turned out to the Club's Deakin Avenue and 19th St. circuit; a 5.5 kilometre lap with some typical sunraysia flat bits, some typical sunraysia sandhill rises, and then some typical sunraysia early morning heat!

Two groups of seven rode "mini" scratch events, with the red cannondale duo of McNally and Tankard leading Ian Beruldsen, Richard Hale, Peter Mills, Brendan Liddle and Peter Winton. B Grade had the pleasure of the company of Jack Lokan, Michael Shipsides, Adrian Lloyd, a pair of priests in Dave and Sam, Dion Basse-Anstee and Barry Pollock (his first ride for about a month).

Plenty of sweat, plenty of hurt and plenty of heart-rate ache. In the end it was the cannondale duo with Tanks first and McNally a length off, with a race average of 38.5km/h. Brendan Liddle again proved he is worthy of more scrutiny by the handicapper, with a strong 3rd place finish.

In B Grade it was Jack "I haven't been riding much" Lokan from Dave Priest (is he really santa in a blue jersey?) and the ever improving Curlwaa Islander, Dion Basse-Anstee home in third.

Despite the great racing, the best part about the day was Maureen Pollock's after-race muffins and soft drink.

While we're away from the racing scene for a moment, the most unbalanced rider award must go to Harry Robbins for his midnight stagger home from wherever he was for six hours on Saturday night.

Next event is Tuesday, December 17 at Riverside, a time trial over 8 kilometres. Lets hope the wind stays away and give all riders the opportunity to set themselves a new time.
