Melbourne 17-year-old schoolboy William Walker took on the cream of Australian
road cyclists on day four of the Jayco Geelong Bay Cycling Classic and won.
Riding for Giant-CBD Cycles, Walker broke away just after the first sprint
and teamed up with Englishman Kristian House (One Hundred Tree Hill Wines) in
the final 15 minutes to create a commanding lead.
But an amazing push by Bay Series leader Robbie McEwen (Crown), aided by Brett
Aitken (Drapac Properties-Beasley Cycles) saw the peloton almost catch them
at the finish.

House tried to break away on the last corner but Walker said he was confident
he had the finish - though admitted afterwards he didn't realise how close the
peloton had got to pulling them back.
He described the race as his toughest and best, after winning the Victorian
junior road title last year.
The final day's racing, starting at Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne
at 9am Sunday has McEwen holding a four point lead over Aitken. McEwen has won
the Classic four times and Aitken twice, so it's anyone's guess who will cross
the line first to win the overall title.

Belinda Goss became the first Tasmanian to ever win a stage of the Classic,
riding a textbook breakaway race with two Victorians Helen Kelly and Lorian
Graham.
Just 10 minutes into the race the three staged a major push that grew to almost
half a lap by the end, making the sprints a three-way contest on each occasion.
Goss proved the stronger to take victory race by several lengths from Kelly,
with Graham about 40 metres further back.
The minor places were shared by a number of the overnight leaders, with Katie
Bates from NSW now amassing 33 points from Hayley Rutherford (NSW) now on 28,
Elizabeth Williams (Victoria) on 27 and Alison Wright (ACT) on 25.
Last year's winner Rochelle Gilmore (NSW) managed only two points to move to
21, equal with Katie Mactier (Vic).
