Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Tamborine TourSeptember 27-28, 2003By Christopher Roots The Tamborine Tour was organized by the South West Districts Cycling Assoc. Inc. and Tamborine Mountain Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc, run over the weekend of 27-28th of September. The tour comprised three races, a 39km kermesse on Saturday, a 54km road race on Sunday morning, followed by a 7.6km hill climb time trial up the mountain. There were three grades competing: senior men, women/masters and master's men. Riders made the most of the perfect weather conditions for the kermesse, comprising ten laps of a 3.9km circuit through avocado orchards and forest. There was little time to take in the view with the speeds high and attacks on from the very start. The attacks took their toll in each race with the eventual winners coming from the breakaways. Racing continued on Sunday morning, beginning with a roll down the mountain under escort. Each grade raced over to Canugra and back in fast conditions once again. There was no chance of a breakaway in the senior men's field, with the result being decided by the final sprint. The Masters Men also finished quickly with a bunch sprint to decide the winner. The hill climb was to prove the deciding event for the master's men, with Roy Jelley of Logan City Cycling Club pulling out all stops to make up a small deficit to clinch overall victory. Sharon Heap proved too strong in the women's event and sealed her victory with the hill climb. Josh Wilson stamped his authority in the senior men's division with a time of 19 minutes 11 seconds to take out the mountains prize and first place overall.
