Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Mildura-Coomealla CCGol Gol, NSW, November 30, 2003By Peter Winton Weather report: 28 degrees C at 9am with a NW wind at 26km/h and gusting to 37 by 10am. Sundays' handicap road race was held at the Gol Gol circuit, which is 11.7km per lap to be precise. The weather today was not in favour of the majority of the club's riders, with blustery WNW winds on the long exposed return section of Gol Gol North road and Alcheringa Drive. A day when Arthur Anderson would have excelled! 21 riders made their way to the horticultural settlement of Buronga and the new start line for this circuit; yes, this circuit covers the two NSW irrigation towns of Buronga and Gol Gol, not that anyone on the east side of the sandstone curtain would ever have heard of them! Kev Gregory made a rare summer appearance and probably wished he'd stayed home. As he eloquently put it, it seems easier when you're only chasing your own front wheel! I like that. Scratch was without the clubs' "Rider of the Year" Rob McNally today and sprint maestro Mark Busch. Scott Giles and Brendan Liddle also absent. And where was the Principal of the Werrimul Public School, hey? Having a cool Veeb no doubt. Young Priesty nearly finished his race off, and Rob Akkermans, on the first corner but all survived. What a great day for the limit bunch, all podium placings coming from the intrepid group, superbly led by the "Irishman" Peter Doody and encouraged and guided by that man Mills. Well done Peter on your first Club win, and may you suffer forever more in the higher groups as penance. Kev Tankards scratchmen failed by less than a minute to grab the lead. Dion Bassi-Anstee also proving himself today with some strong stuff, he's finding some fitness at last. Note to the handicapper, get him up the ladder OR get me down. Nathan Summerhayes is the latest contender for "dirt bike rider of the season" with his off-road and into the ditch performance. There's no need to go there Nathan, just coz the big engine has put in a blistering attack into the headwind, just admit to being normal and join the rest of us off the back, struggling! Thanks to those riders who helped with setting up today's event. Little things like distributing race numbers, hands on with the marquee (de Sade!) paying your fees without being chased up and then packing everything up, it all makes for a better experience for all. Looking forward to Tuesdays 8km time trial.
