Results and Reports from AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Illawarra CCHuntley, NSW, November 30, 2003Dale gets win and new course recordAn excellent size field of 47 riders took part in the 27km handicap race last Sunday at Huntley. Riders were placed in eight groups from the very classy scratch bunch of Peter Jones, Steve Franklin, Luke Dale, Brett Townsend and Craig Williams, right through to the two young juniors Scott and Jackson Law off limit. In a very sizeable bunch sprint, made up of the scratch riders and anyone else that was able to stay with them as they went through the entire field, Dale proved to quick taking it out from Williams and Franklin. Each of the eight groups was separated by a minute from the group in front and behind. This provided some very quick racing as each group had the one in front in their sights just after the start. Most of the riders in the groups worked well together. After the second lap there were three bunches on the road. The four front groups, the 4 and 5 minute group and the back three groups. It was apparent that the scratch riders were in with a good chance, but the front groups were not giving up without a fight; in fact, they were caught in the final straight with less than 300m of the race left. Dale's winning time of 37'40, was a new course record for a 27km handicap and is the second fastest time on the course to Jono Hall's time of 37'29 in a 27km scratch race in January this year. Next week's scratch races are over 27km. Group 2 is to provide the marshals.
