Franklin First, daylight to second
Steve Franklin backed up a strong performance at the recent Tour of Tahiti to take out the Caesar's Illawarra Cycle Club 18.5 kilometre individual time trial last Saturday. Finishing 32 seconds ahead of veteran Rob Calladine and a further 44 seconds in front of Dave Russell, Franklin was in no danger of being caught.
Twenty five riders participated in the near perfect conditions. Octogenarian Eric Doughty was first away and posted a 36:42. Scott Butler chose a hard event to commence his return to competitive cycling. A few riders put in surprise performances upsetting the ranking. Michael Comensoli (31:33) just edged out Adrian White by a second. Other times included Jonathan Stagg (30:12), Kahled Ali (29:23), Frank Tortorici (29:03), Dave Russell (28:51).
Next week's event will be the 4 kilometer hill climb to be held near Byarong Park, Mt Keira starting at 1 pm. A bar-b-que lunch will be available following the event.
