German resident Jeannette Nussbaum, a student at the University of Washington, was the clear favorite at the start of the Collegiate Women's race.

She roared off the front and owned the course - until she suffered a double flat at spot on the course farthest from the pits. Into the lead went University of California-Berkeley's Kate Maher, and Maher held her lead for good.
