Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track RacingDunc Gray Velodrome, Sydney, September 2, 2005The ZeroRh+ Sunglasses 1km Wheel race for Div 3 Felice from Cycling Projects once again showed his support to FNWTR, this time in the form of over $700 worth of prizes for the Div 3 ZeroRh+ Wheel race. Cycling Projects is the Australian distributor of Campagnolo, Veloflex Tyres and ZeroRh+ sunglasses. This week's wheel race was also the second chance for riders to qualify for the series ending Campagnolo Wheel race, so all competitors were extremely motivated to give their all. Hugh Gray from Waratah Vets had the unenviable task of being the scratch man whilst Peloton Sports' Graham Tierney was our limit rider on 75m. From the start, Michael Leach (25m) put in a huge effort to leave his fellow back markers behind and catch the leading pack, whilst Graham Tierney cleverly swung up looking for the wheel of John Howard. Howard obliged and led Tierney to the final lap where he made his move for the win. Behind, St George's Brendan Fehon had been making steady progress through the field and had superior speed coming into the final lap whilst Canberra's Laura Meisel-Dennis was desperately chasing his wheel. In the final lap Brendan just had too much speed and easily rolled Graham with Laura "the menace" scrambling home for third, just piping a young Ben Harvey. As always, Round 3's infamous 1 lap screamers provided much entertainment as each heat seemed to get progressively faster. In the final heat, which had the top four of the FNWTR series point score doing battle, all eyes were on the young speedster Patrick Bolan. In a classy field including Masters 200m fly World Record holder Peter Barnard, Bolan left them standing, hurtling himself around the track in a FNWTR record time of 19.47 for the lap + 30m. Upon reviewing Bolan's start on the video it revealed what can only be described as a "Perfect Start". If the Australian selectors are looking for a starter of the Olympic Sprint team keep an eye on the developing Bolan. The CNSW Time Blaster turned into an anticlimax. After only 5 laps, we were left with only two riders. Spencer and Tomlinson did well to record a time of 9 minutes 08 seconds. This time was not good enough to win the cash prize. Best of luck to FNWTR riders competing at the Australian titles and the World Masters in Manchester. A special Cheerio to a brave little girl named Isabel who won many hearts on Friday. Next week will include Kierin's and The Veloflex wheel race. This is Division 4's chance to Qualify for September 23rds Campagnolo final. We have only 3 more nights of the 2005 series and only 3 more chances to qualify.
