Introduction to Track Racing - What's a Wheelrace? - Introduction to Six Day racing - UCI codes
Results and Reports for AustraliaPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to cyclingnews Friday Night Winter Track Racing #4Dunc Gray Velodrome, July 9, 2004By Paul Craft The place to be for a cyclist on a Friday night is definitely the Dunc Grey Velodrome. It rained all day but the patrons of FNWTR didn't care because they were getting their kilometers and intervals in under cover. The Feature race for the night was the No Sponsor 1km Div 4 Wheel Race. The competitors were racing for a set of quality road pedals and were keen for some action. The handicap looked very competitive with one exception, Teagan Hines, who was given a very generous 140m. Teagan made the most of her good fortune and managed to win the race by 20m but the tussle for second was extremely close with a wall of riders including scratch man Paul Worby throwing for the line. When the dust settled we were amazed that Donna Meehan had held on for second and Paul Regattieri had snuck in for third. The keirins as always were hard fought battles. I would like to thank Terry "Tank" Doherty who rode the derny for 12 keirins and 4 Miss'N'Out pointscores. The big hitters Kierin was a rematch of last weeks sprint derby which Barnard won. However this week Shaun Hopkins made no mistakes and held out David Short on the line. An interesting new race, the Miss'N'Out-Pointscore was well received by almost everyone at the track. Essentially this is a Miss'N'Out flowing into a Kierin with the winner being the rider with most points accumulated from both events. Having never ridden the race before Division 1 and 2 riders were watching the lower grades intently, trying to determine their tactics for the race. It was well noted that the winners of the elimination section of the race did not recover enough to figure in the final sprint finish. Next week is the much anticipated Ivan Colig Financial Consultant 1km Wheelrace. $200 cash is up for grabs for the winner. To qualify for this event you simply have to finish in the top 4 of your divisions Scratch race. This will give us 16 riders to contest this highly prestigious wheelrace. The prize money will continue for the final race of the night the NSWCF+NSWIS Time Blaster. The time to beat will be 9 minutes 50 seconds for the 30 laps. Till then, keep traveling anticlockwise.
