Training/Testing

Our cycling camp is primarily designed for riders who are looking to improve their cycling performance while living out their dream of training and riding in Europe like a European pro. No training camp is going to transform a rider into a far better cyclist in 1 or 2 weeks. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to achieve your goals in cycling. No matter how big or small they are. Cost of testing and consultation is $250/rider. Testing is optional. There is only 6 spots for testing available for each camp.

Iñigo San Millán trains many professional and amateur cyclists as well as many other amateur and professional athletes. In past years, Iñigo San Millán has attended the training camps of professional Spanish cycling teams to conduct the physiological testing of their riders, and for the past seven years he has been working with four Division 1 teams: Vitalicio, ONCE, Vini-Caldirola, and now as Head Physiologist and Medical Team coordinator for the Saunier Duval-Prodir professional cycling team.

Testing Includes:

  • VO2 max testing
  • Lactate analysis
  • Oxidative stress test
  • Blood work
  • Personal training consultation
  • Dietary & nutritional analysis*
  • Guided training rides
  • Improve your Speed, Power, Endurance

VO2 max tests do little to tell a rider how they should train, but it is a good indicator of your potential. The key to determining how a rider needs to train is in the lactate analysis and other testing we provide. This tells our camp's sports physiologist, Iñigo, which specific areas a cyclist needs work on. Blood work is also done to determine a rider's hematocrit, hemoglobin, and enzyme levels. The results of this test tells Iñigo whether a rider is depleted from over or improper training. A body composition test is also done to determine the optimum power to weight ratio for each individual rider.

New as of 2003 is the oxidative stress test. This cutting-edge test measures free radical activity and the possible damage caused by free radicals. Few athletes have access to this new kind of test - even the pros are just discovering it, and so far only a few pro racing teams have been able test their riders this way.

Iñigo will then give each rider a consultation where he will interpret the testing and results for each rider while providing concrete training advice for each individual rider. No other camp offers this level of physiological testing and training advise at a price anywhere close ours. Iñigo also currently works with one of the best professional teams in the pro peloton and his knowledge in training is among the very best.

A high level of motivation and proper training are the ingredients needed to stimulate an increase in your performance.
